INNER CITY KITTIES... PART 2

Good evening comic fans... How's your week been?

'Inner City Kitties' chapter one is progressing nicely. The first page is inked, coloured and lettered. It's not necessarily going to be the pattern for the rest of the book, but I wanted to get a full page under my belt before I cracked on with the rest of the pages. It sets the tone nicely, along with style and colour palette. I'm sharing it here, so you get a taster too. Four more pages are already inked, ready to be scanned, and I'm on roll with the others.

INNER CITY KITTIES...

Been slacking on updates lately, mainly as I've been busy creating!

My challenge of creating a new comic bi-monthly this year is working well. I have one plotted, plans for six more, and just last week, I finished writing/storyboarding chapter one of 'Inner City Kitties', a six-parter starring MC Spacecat and DJ Tyrone. 

The series traces their progression from 12 year old kittens to middle aged statesmen of hip hop. It's set against a backdrop which reflects the history of hip hop from it's birth in the 80s up to the present day. It's going to be kinda funny, with plenty of cameos from hip hop icons through the ages. I've loved hip hop since the Street Sounds 'Electro' tapes came out, and mixing it up with my major love, comics is pretty cool. I'm having a blast putting the series together, picking out tunes and acts to 'star' in it; going through my old records, tapes and CDs; checking out videos, documentaries and graffiti... it's a labour of love!

Inner City Kitties is going to be a multi-media project too. I've already written two of Spacecat and Tyrone's tunes, and have recorded the first one. There'll be EPs, LPs and videos to go with the comics, building the whole world of hip hop that Spacecat and Tyrone grew up in. LONG FORM SPACECAT...

I've started working on big comics project, probably a graphic novel, starring MC Spacecat and DJ Tyrone. It's planned as a funny look at the history of Hip Hop, youth culture and growing up in the UK.  I've just started writing/storyboarding the whole shebang to get a feel for the flow, then I'll start drawing properly in the New Year, tighten up the story, plug any holes and make it work!

It'll be in colour, so I'm testing out some colouring ideas in Photoshop... watch this space comic book fans!

Kitty Cards

Last summer, whilst on holiday on the Isle of Wight, my grandson and I came up with 'Kitty Cards', a funny trading card idea.  We came up with about a hundred kitties, and I sketched quite a few, including 'Cthulhu Kitty', seen here.  

Recently, my grandson brought the idea of doing Kitty Cards up again.  I've laid out most of what I have dubbed the first wave of 14 cards, and five, including Cthulhu Kitty here, are done as finished digital artwork.

The original idea was to make a small amount of the cards myself to give out free at art shows and events to kids.  Kids love free stuff and collecting, and it's also a good way of getting my art out there too.  I'm looking into getting the cards produced properly and how to get packages made like old-fashioned bubble gum and card packs.  It's amazing that in this high technology world we live in, that a little bit of card with some funky art on it can still grab people's attention and imagination.  If anyone has contacts in the trading card business... please let me know!

I am genuinely having a blast putting these cards together.  If you see me at shows and events, please ask me if I have any left, as I think they'll go fast!
